Your role matters here

Admins and Chief Instructors manage courses, endorsements, curricula, and stage checks. Instructors view their assigned students’ progress. Students view their own progress and endorsements. This page only appears for flight schools.

Your student Marcus just passed his pre-solo stage check. He’s got 14.3 hours in N172SP. You need to issue a solo endorsement, update his training record, and schedule his first solo flight in the pattern. WingWrangler handles all of it.

Training Lifecycle

A PPL student moves through a fixed sequence: enrollment, lessons, stage checks, and finally the checkride with a DPE. Fail a stage check, you go back for remediation. Pass, you advance.

Course Structure

A standard PPL course breaks into four stages. Each stage has its own lesson block and a stage check gate at the end. No student advances without passing the gate.

Stage 1 covers maneuvers, pattern work, and emergency procedures. Marcus needs to demonstrate proficiency in stalls, slow flight, and normal/crosswind landings before his pre-solo stage check. Stage 4 is ACS standards review and mock checkrides before you send him to the DPE.

Enrolling Students

Open the student’s profile. Click Training > Enroll. Pick the course.

Marcus is starting Private Pilot. You select “PPL - Part 61” and he’s in. His training record populates with every lesson, maneuver, and stage check required.

Tracking Progress

Every task in the syllabus has a status. After you fly Lesson 7 (steep turns, power-off stalls) with Marcus in N172SP, you mark each maneuver.

A student can’t just see it once. They need to demonstrate it meets ACS standards before it’s marked proficient.

Stage Checks

Marcus has completed all pre-solo maneuvers. You’ve marked him proficient on stalls, slow flight, ground reference, and pattern work. Time for a stage check.

You request the check. A different instructor (the chief CFI, check airman, or designated stage check pilot) flies with Marcus and evaluates against ACS standards. If he passes, he advances. If he doesn’t, the check instructor documents exactly what’s deficient and sends him back to you for remediation.

Set stage check requirements per course under Training > Settings. Define which maneuvers are evaluated, minimum grades, and who’s authorized to conduct checks.

Endorsements

Marcus passed his pre-solo stage check. Now you need to endorse him. Solo endorsements, knowledge test endorsements, practical test endorsements, currency endorsements — they’re all here.

To endorse Marcus for solo flight in N172SP:

1. Open his profile. Go to Endorsements.
2. Select the “Solo - Initial” template. It pulls the correct 14 CFR 61.87 language.
3. Add aircraft make/model (Cessna 172S), limitations (pattern only, KPAO, day VFR).
4. Sign electronically. It’s timestamped and stored in his permanent record.

Note

Endorsements are legal documents under 14 CFR. Verify every detail — aircraft type, limitations, student name, date — before you sign. There’s no undo.
